Argentina – Citizenship-By-Investment Programme

Argentina is introducing a new Citizenship-By-Investment pathway that allows qualifying applicants and their families to obtain Argentine citizenship through a significant investment. The framework was established by Decree 366/2025 and Decree 524/2025, and a dedicated agency, the Agencia de Programas de Ciudadanía por Inversión (APCI), has been created to oversee the programme.

The government announced the proposed investment thresholds and key features on 2 October 2026. The programme has not yet officially opened. The launch is expected in late 2026 or in the first quarter of 2027, subject to the remaining legislative and administrative arrangements. The details on this page are preliminary and may change.

Argentina is a G20 economy and a member of MERCOSUR. Its passport offers strong global mobility, and Argentine citizens can benefit from regional residence arrangements and from eligibility for the US E-2 Treaty Investor Visa. Contact us to register your interest and to receive updates as the final rules are published.

The Benefits

  • Citizenship and a passport for the main applicant and eligible family members
  • Access to around 169 destinations without a traditional advance visa, including the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, Japan and China
  • MERCOSUR membership, with facilitated residence arrangements in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and other South American countries, subject to regional rules
  • Eligibility for the US E-2 Treaty Investor Visa, which allows citizens to establish and operate a qualifying business in the United States
  • Under Law 27.802, acquiring citizenship through this pathway does not in itself create Argentine tax residency
  • A choice between a non-refundable contribution and a government bond, with the bond principal expected to be returned at maturity, subject to the final terms
  • One visit to Argentina expected, with an overall processing time of around 6 to 9 months
