Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit
Today’s world has allowed the introduction of what we call ‘Digital Nomads,’ namely people who use telecommunications technologies to work in a remote manner. Such nomads are generally allowed to work remotely from other countries other than the base of their own company and can work from different environments, including in the comfort of their own home, coffee shops, restaurants, public libraries, co-working spaces, and more. To address these new trends concerning digital nomads, in 2021, Malta has launched the Nomad Residence Permit (NRP), which allows non-EU nationals the right to live in Malta whilst being employed in another country on a remote-working basis. The right to live in Malta is provided on the basis of a residence permit or a national visa, depending on the intended length of stay.
